Gattinara is the oldest growing area for the Nebbiolo grape, older than the famous DOCG Barolo and Barbaresco. Nervi is the oldest winery in the Gattinara region . It was founded by Luigi Nervi in 1906 and owns 24 hectares of vineyards planted almost exclusively with the Nebbiolo grape variety. The 4,000 meter high Monte Rosa protects the vineyards from cold north winds and ensures the perfect amount of rainfall. The exceptional soils of volcanic porphyry with a high clay content ensure a unique terroir and long-lasting, complex Nebbioli with high aging potential. Over the past decades, Nervi's different Nebbiolo clones have been increasingly selected to extract Gattinara with exceptional aromatic complexity. In 2011, the Nervi winery was given to the Norwegian hands of the four families Astrup , Moestue , Wicklund and Skjelbred. In 2018, Roberto Conterno , owner of the Giacomo Conterno winery , acquired Nervi.
