Morgante

The vineyards of the Azienda Morgante are located in the south-western part of Sicily. In the hilly area of the municipality of Grotte, the Morgante family has owned 30 hectares for five generations, which are planted exclusively with the ancient, indigenous grape variety Nero d Avola . This independent local grape, which is unfortunately no longer widely grown, is one of the best southern red wine varieties and has great potential. The up-and-coming estate is managed by Antonio Morgante and his sons Carmelo and Giovanni. The winery was completely restructured in 1994 in order to better implement the radical quality philosophy. Since 1997, the Italian star oenologist Riccardo Cotarella has been working as a consultant at Morgante .
