In sparkling wines, carbon dioxide is formed during the second fermentation through a natural process, regardless of whether it is traditional bottle fermentation or large-scale fermentation (Charmat method). In the case of semi-sparkling wines, the carbon dioxide is usually added exogenously. If the wine is fermented in a pressure tank, the formation of endogenous carbonic acid is also possible. In contrast to sparkling wines, it is possible to bottle sparkling wines in bottles with screw caps because their carbon dioxide content is lower; between 1 and 2.5 bar. The alcohol content of sparkling wines is usually lower than that of sparkling wines.
